Want to change the world? Educate a girl! A recent report from UNICEF says that the best way to improve global development efforts is by educating girls. The report focuses on the issues of developing nations, but certainly the overall trends apply to the girls we serve right here in Omaha. Because women make many of the decisions that affect a family’s health and welfare, the education girls receive is directly linked to a community’s well-being.

$35 $35 pays for a tank of gas for one of our vans. Each day we drive to the local schools, pick the girls up and bring them safely to Girls Inc. Once here, homework is the first daily priority.
$100 $100 provides two homework helpers for the girls one hour after school each day for one week. Those “helpers” help the girls and oversee the volunteer tutors as well. We need 36 donors at this level to help make sure the homework gets done!
$250 Once homework is done in the afternoon, programs begin. Help teach our teachers. $250 can pay for a training workshop so our Program Facilitators are better able to teach the girls – especially in the areas of math, science, and literacy.
$500 $500 can help pay for the curriculum materials and supplies we need to present effective, interesting programs. We buy everything from computer software to anatomy charts to microscopes to rulers.
$1,000 Help our girls stay competitive in the technology arena. We need 12 donors at this level to provide tech support for our computer lab for one year. Our girls need computer access to do homework and research on the web, as well as to participate in programs that teach computer skills such as word processing, slide presentations and data management.
$5,000 A hungry girl cannot learn! After homework and programming, it is time for dinner. $5,000 serves 100 girls a hot, nutritious meal every evening for one month. During the school year we feed over 100 girls each day. During the summer months, we feed even more!
